About
This Level I certification introduces managers to the essential human resources, staffing, and employee-management practices required to build and maintain a professional household team. Students learn how to create staff handbooks and training manuals, establish onboarding and orientation programs, set performance expectations, conduct evaluations, address performance concerns, and develop consistent household policies and procedures. The course explores conflict resolution, mediation, disciplinary practices, cultural sensitivity, multilingual household operations, and strategies for creating a respectful and collaborative workplace. Students also examine the management of remote employees and virtual assistants, including communication, productivity, privacy, and data-security considerations. Additional topics include employee classification, payroll administration, compensation, benefits, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, international staff and work authorization, employee retention, career development, recognition, workplace culture, and work-life balance. Employment-related instruction is based on general U.S. federal employment and labor-law concepts. Requirements may differ by state, territory, and local jurisdiction, and managers should understand when professional legal, payroll, tax, or immigration guidance is required. Upon successful completion, students will receive the House & Estate: Human Resources, Policy & Household Staffing I Certification.
